Maintenance of Certification (formerly Recertification)The science of medicine and its application to the practice of preventive medicine continues to change at an astonishing rate. Today, lifelong learning has become not only desirable, but essential in order for physicians to stay current in the practice of their chosen specialty. To aid in this learning process the ABPM, under the direction requirements set by the ABMS, has developed a maintenance of certification program, called Enhancing Professional Improvement and Quality (EPIQ), that promotes life-long learning and the enhancement of the knowledge and skills essential to high quality care. The EPIQ program helps preventive medicine specialists improve the quality of care. It also fosters the continuing scholarship required for professional excellence in the practice of preventive medicine. The EPIQ MOC program must be completed every 10 years, and is designed to:
