Undersea & Hyperbaric MedicineIn March 1999 ABPM received approval to change the name of its subspecialty certification in Undersea Medicine to Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine. With this change in name to more accurately reflect the expansion of practice during the past decade to include regular use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy for a variety of disorders, the ABPM plans to offer this subspecialty certification exam on an annual basis. In 2000 the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) received approval
to offer subspecialty certification in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine to
diplomates of their Board. The 2008 examination for certification in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine will be given over a two week period: September 29 - October 3, 2008 and October 6 - 10, 2008. The examination will be administered by computer at Pearson VUE Professional Centers across the United States. The due date for applications is July 1, 2008. The application fee for those individuals who have completed an approved fellowship in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine is $385. For those applying through the practice pathway, the application fee is $555. Review of applications will occur during early August and those who are approved to take the examination will be notified shortly thereafter. The examination fee for the 2008 exam is $1,750.
