Bodybuilding

What is bodybuilding?

In today’s time and age, many people are conscious of their looks. They see it as their most prized possession – to be looking and feeling good. Bodybuilding is a primary part of honing one’s body. When asked people about their notion of bodybuilding, they picture a person who is massively muscled, gigantic biceps and triceps, and toned pectorals.

Bodybuilding is all about the growth and development of the body through proper diet and exercise. For professional bodybuilders, proper diet and exercise alone are not enough to achieve their target body, especially if they are prepping for a professional bodybuilding competition. They need supplements to help achieve their target body goal.

To help build muscle you need supplements

Nutrition plays an important role in bodybuilding. No matter how hard you train, you won’t achieve your target body if it lacks nutrition. People turn to supplements as they add valuable nutrients to help build muscles, help the body train harder, and recover faster. With the right supplements, you will be able to make significant progress with every training. below are some of the essential supplements needed by bodybuilders:

  • BCAA (Branched Amino Acid) – Proteins are made up of 20 amino acids and three of them are branched amino acids namely valine, leucine, and isoleucine. They are responsible for regulating protein metabolism and promotes the synthesis of protein. They function the same way as protein, driving nutrients to muscles to hasten recovery. Taking a supplement like BCAA helps take your workout to the next level. It is a perfect energy source and replaces nutrient loss during strenuous exercise. On top of that, it also improves metabolic recovery and significantly reduce muscle pain. The ideal daily dosage of BCAA is 3 to 5 grams in the morning upon waking up and to 5 grams before and after the workout.
  • Whey Protein – It is a digesting milk protein that transports essential amino acids to the bone muscles (skeletal muscles). It is one of the commonly used supplements of people who want to gain muscles because of its ability to instantly shuttled into the muscles exerting its potent anabolic effects. It is the main reason why whey protein is used as a pre-workout and post-workout meal. The ideal daily dosage of whey protein is between 20 and 30 grams.

Whey protein helps with recovery, especially after an intense workout. Taking whey protein after a workout can promote rapid muscle recovery and helps build strong and lean muscles.

It can be used to suppress appetite, to replace a meal, or serve as a healthy snack. Consider taking when protein shake to decrease your daily calorie intake and improve the level of protein in the body.

It contains essential amino acid which is helpful in the synthesis of protein.

  • Creatine – It is a naturally-occurring substance produced in the liver, kidneys, and pancreas. It is found in the skeletal muscle tissues and transformed into creatine phosphate where ATP (energy molecule) is produced. It helps increase muscle cell volume, improves lean body mass, improves muscle performance, and hastens recovery after an intense workout. Although creatine is naturally found in the body, its amount is only sufficient for various cellular functions. This is why it is important to supplement the body’s need for creatine should you wish to grow your muscles. The daily recommended dosage is 5 to 10 grams.

Some supplements are illegal and dangerous for your health

Supplements are readily available in the market. However, you have to carefully choose your supplements, especially when enhancing strength and muscle mass as some may contain ingredients that can be extremely dangerous for your health.

The Food and Drug Administration released a consumer alert warning the public about the use of supplements containing anabolic steroids. Supplements containing anabolic steroids can cause hair loss, severe acne, irritability, altered mood, depression, and increased aggression. It can only cause serious complications such as serious liver injuries, heart attack, kidney damage, blood clots, stroke, and heart attack.

Hence, it is important to know the supplements you are getting.

There is always a natural and safe alternative

Safety should always be the main priority when using any type of supplements. Start with carefully reading the label to know what ingredients the supplement is made of. To be safe, you should look for supplements made from all-natural ingredients. If the components are too scientific which makes it hard for you to read, then it probably is not made from natural ingredients.

You should also watch out for natural ingredients you might be allergic to such as nuts, soy, fish, and milk. It would help a lot if you are going to read reviews made by people who have tried using the supplement. Check for unbiased reviews, and lastly, if you are still in doubt, consult your doctor.
